Ryanair CEO contests compensation claim after window blowout incident
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has announced that the airline will contest a claim for multi-million dollar compensation following a July incident on a flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen. During the flight, a window on a Boeing 737 shattered, leading to sudden depressurization.
The passenger involved, 61-year-old Ljubisa Karović, sustained serious injuries. His legal counsel asserts that Karović’s head and right arm were sucked through the window opening. However, O’Leary maintains that while the passenger was drawn toward the opening in dramatic circumstances, no part of his body actually exited the aircraft.
The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the incident in collaboration with Boeing. O’Leary stated that while the passenger is entitled to certain compensation, the airline rejects the demand for a multi-million dollar settlement.
