Ryanair discusses Spanish airport fee framework and engine center

Ryanair spokesperson Alejandra Ruiz has commented on the new airport fee framework approved by the Spanish government for 2027 to 2031. The government intervened in a dispute between airlines and Aena, limiting the average annual increase in airport fees to 0.33 percent, significantly lower than the 3.82 percent proposed by the state-controlled operator.

Ruiz noted that while the rejection of Aena’s proposed 21 percent cumulative increase is positive for regional competitiveness, the airline views it as a missed opportunity to actually lower fees. She pointed out that current rates remain inflated compared to previous benchmarks.

Additionally, Ryanair is in discussions with various European governments and state agencies regarding the location of its first two engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities. One facility is expected to be located in Eastern Europe, while the second, which Sevilla is competing to host, would be in Western Europe.
