Ryanair exit threatens Azores tourism with 160 million euro loss

The departure of Ryanair is expected to have a significant impact on tourism in the Azores, with potential losses estimated to reach 160 million euros. This downturn is increasing pressure on the Regional Government as business owners criticize the current response and highlight the high prices charged by airlines.

Separately, Gul Med Aviation Services has warned that rising fuel costs are threatening the sustainability of emergency medical air transport. The company reported an 80% increase in aviation fuel prices since the start of operations in July 2025, alongside a 35% increase in monthly flight hours. The provider has requested inclusion in public support programs, similar to those provided to humanitarian fire services, to offset rising logistical and operational expenses.
