Ryanair launches winter flights to Agadir as 'Coolcation' travel trend expands

Travelers in Germany are increasingly seeking summer holidays in cooler destinations where temperatures stay below 25 °C, a pattern dubbed “Coolcation.” Tourism researcher Dirk Reiser notes that rising heatwaves and wildfires in traditional sun‑belt locations such as Italy, Spain and Greece are prompting vacationers to choose places like Sweden, Tasmania and other northern regions for outdoor activities and lower heat risk.

Responding to this shift, Ryanair announced a new direct winter service from Nuremberg’s Albrecht Dürer Airport to the Moroccan coastal city of Agadir. The flights, operating on Mondays and Saturdays from the upcoming winter schedule, aim to offer German travelers a mild‑climate alternative for beach walks, golf and regional tours, with Agadir also serving as a gateway to Marrakech. Ryanair’s Country Manager for DACH, Marcel Pouchain Meyer, highlighted the route as part of a broader effort to expand winter destinations for German holidaymakers.
