Rybnik police warn of scams after elderly man loses 50,000 PLN

Police in Rybnika are warning residents about a series of scams targeting vulnerable individuals. On August 17, an 85-year-old man was defrauded of 50,000 PLN after receiving a phone call from a man posing as a doctor. The caller claimed the man's daughter urgently required an expensive vaccine, using emotional pressure to induce a quick transfer of funds.

On the same day, another resident reported an internet fraud involving a computer purchase via an application. The victim lost 7,000 PLN and never received the equipment. Authorities note that criminals frequently impersonate trusted figures, such as doctors, police officers, or bank employees, to manipulate victims into revealing sensitive data or transferring money.
