Ryo Narita to star in film ‘Otoko Tomodachi’

New promotional images and a 15-second teaser have been released for the film ‘Otoko Tomodachi’ (Male Friend), starring Mayu Matsuoka and Ryo Narita. Directed by Yukiko Mishima and based on the novel by Akane Chihaya, the story follows an illustrator, Kanna, who reunites with her former university senior, Haseo, after seven years.

The narrative explores the complex relationship between the two characters as they spend three nights together in Kyoto, Toyama, and Hiroshima. Narita plays Haseo, a medical representative who maintains a unique distance from Kanna while deeply understanding her.

Producer Yusuke Sugimoto noted that Narita was cast specifically for his ability to convey depth through his gaze, a crucial element for the character. The film is scheduled for a nationwide release in Japan on November 6 and has been selected for the competition section of the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival.
