Ryotaro Ito joins Real Valladolid in Spain

Japanese midfielder Ryotaro Ito has signed with Real Valladolid in the Spanish Segunda División. The 28-year-old joins the club on a free transfer with a contract running until June 30, 2027.

Ito’s move follows a period of uncertainty after his contract with Belgian side Sint-Truiden VV expired. A previously reached agreement with English Championship club Blackburn Rovers collapsed after a medical examination revealed concerns regarding an ankle injury. During his time in Belgium, Ito was a key player, contributing 10 goals and 5 assists last season and helping his team secure a position in European competition.

Real Valladolid, which was relegated from La Liga last season, currently sits 16th in the second division. Ito becomes the second Japanese player in the club's history, following former national team forward Shoji Jo.
