Ryu Ji-hyun inaugurated as new manager of Hanwha Eagles
Ryu Ji-hyun was officially inaugurated as the 15th manager of the Hanwha Eagles during a ceremony held at Daejeon Hanwha Life Eagles Park on October 16. Ryu, who previously managed the LG Twins and led the South Korean national team to a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, signed a three-year contract worth 2 billion won.
During his inaugural address, Ryu emphasized a long-term vision, stating that the team’s journey toward 2027 begins immediately. He identified key areas for improvement, specifically noting the need to stabilize the pitching staff—including starters, middle relief, and closers—and to optimize player positions. Ryu also highlighted the importance of guiding the team’s young roster toward a unified direction.
Having spent 29 years with the LG Twins as a player, coach, and manager, this marks Ryu’s first tenure with a different organization. He expressed his intention to integrate advanced data analysis and global baseball perspectives gained during his time with the national team to build a sustainable, competitive squad that makes fans proud.
