Ryuhei Maruyama stars in semi-autobiographical play ‘water’

Ryuhei Maruyama, a member of the group SUPER EIGHT, is starring in the semi-autobiographical stage production ‘water’ at the Tokyo Globe Theatre, which opened on September 27. Directed by Takahiro Fujita, the play is set in Maruyama’s hometown of Kyoto and weaves together fragments of his childhood memories with elements of fiction.

During a press conference and public rehearsal, Maruyama discussed the unique atmosphere of Kyoto and how the production explores the presence of ‘water’ in the landscape. He noted that while the story is personal, he hopes audiences will find their own connections to the narrative.

Maruyama also addressed the upcoming disbandment of the junior group WEST. scheduled for the end of the month. He expressed support for the members, stating that music does not disappear and that he hopes they continue to enjoy their journeys as they move into new chapters of their lives. He also shared lighthearted anecdotes regarding his colleague Shota Yasuda, who is set to star in a different production following the opening of ‘water’.
