Ryuhei Maruyama to star in Hedwig and the Angry Inch musical

Ryuhei Maruyama, a member of the group SUPER EIGHT, is set to star in the musical ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ during its upcoming Japanese tour in early 2027. The production will be written and directed by John Cameron Mitchell, who also starred in the original 2001 film adaptation.

This production marks a significant reunion for Maruyama and Mitchell. During their 2022 collaboration, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented them from meeting in person, forcing them to work together remotely. To prepare for the new run, Maruyama recently traveled to the United States to visit historical sites related to the musical and meet Mitchell in person at his home in New Orleans.

The tour is scheduled to run from February 20 to March 29, 2027, with performances taking place in Tokyo, Osaka, Miyagi, and Kyoto.
