Ryuhou and Asahifuji promoted to Juryo division

The Japan Sumo Association announced new rankings for the upcoming Kyushu Basho, highlighting the promotion of two rising stars to the Juryo division.

Ryuhou (Kazuma Nishimura), 19, has earned promotion to Juryo in just eight tournaments. A member of the Otobayama stable, he expressed his desire to have reached the division earlier this year. His stablemaster, former Yokozuna Terunofuji, noted that this is the first Sekitori promotion for his newly established stable.

Asahifuji, a Mongolian-born wrestler from the Isegahama stable, has achieved promotion in just six tournaments. This marks one of the fastest ascents to the Juryo division since the six-tournament system was established in 1958. His stablemaster, former Yokozuna Terunofuji, praised his mental fortitude, noting that Asahifuji continued to compete effectively even while recovering from a broken rib.
