Ryunosuke Matsumoto announces retirement from Yokohama DeNA BayStars

Ryunosuke Matsumoto, a left-handed pitcher for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, has announced his retirement from professional baseball. Matsumoto joined the team in 2020 as a third-round draft pick from Yokohama High School.

Despite facing various injuries throughout his career, Matsumoto achieved his first professional appearance and start in 2024. Following the club's decision not to renew his contract for the upcoming season, he decided to end his playing career. In a statement, Matsumoto expressed that while it would be dishonest to say he has no regrets, he felt immense happiness playing for his beloved team.

The BayStars organization praised Matsumoto's dedication and his efforts to return to the mound during rehabilitation periods, noting that he was highly respected by teammates and staff.
