Ryusei Matsumoto to fight for WBO world minimumweight title

Former WBA champion Ryusei Matsumoto has announced he will compete in a WBO world minimumweight title fight on September 27 at Toyota Arena Tokyo. Matsumoto, who previously vacated his WBA title to pursue a legitimate world championship, will face the undefeated Mexican fighter Russell Acosta.

Under WBO regulations, the winner of this bout will automatically be elevated to full champion status. This promotion will occur simultaneously with the scheduled title defense by current WBO champion Oscar Collazo against Ricardo Sandoval in Chicago. Acosta enters the match with an undefeated record of 17 wins, marking his first professional fight outside of Mexico.
