Ryusei Onishi to star in Prime Video drama ‘Breath’

Actor Ryusei Onishi, a member of the group Naniwa Danshi, will star in the Prime Original live-action drama ‘Breath’, based on the manga by Yukino Sonoyama. The story follows a former model aspiring to become a makeup artist and a high school student who find self-growth through the power of makeup.

During a Prime Video strategy presentation in Tokyo, Onishi shared his dedication to the role. To prepare, he visited professional makeup sites and attended makeup classes provided by Shiseido, including the SABFA hair and makeup school, to learn techniques from the ground up. Onishi noted that his personal experiences with skin concerns helped him connect with the character, stating, ‘Makeup is a blessing (breath). It supports those who are working hard every day.’

New promotional visuals and a special video have been released, showcasing contrasting makeup styles—one avant-garde with black and silver tones, and another ethereal using pink powders. The makeup for the production is supervised by Shiseido’s top hair and makeup artist, Ikuko Shindo. ‘Breath’ is scheduled for exclusive worldwide streaming on Prime Video in the spring of 2027.
