Rzeszów Court modifies sentence in 8-year-old's murder case

The Court of Appeal in Rzeszów has issued a final verdict in the high-profile case involving the murder of 8-year-old Oskar from Chałupki Dębniańskie. Dorota G., the child's mother, has had her sentence modified following appeals from both the defense and the prosecution.

Originally sentenced to 25 years in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years, the appellate court reduced the term to 20 years of imprisonment. However, the court removed the possibility of conditional early release, meaning the defendant must serve the full term. A lifelong ban on working with minors remains in place.

The incident occurred on July 10, 2024. Investigations determined that Dorota G. premeditated the killing by first administering atropine to her son and then suffocating him with a blanket for approximately five minutes. Following the act, she contacted emergency services. Although the defendant admitted guilt and expressed remorse, forensic experts determined she was legally sane at the time of the crime, noting only personality disorders.
