Rzeszów prosecutors investigate ‘White Lives Matter’ graffiti as hate crime

Polish prosecutors have launched a hate crime investigation following the appearance of ‘White Lives Matter’ graffiti in Rzeszów. The slogan was reportedly painted on a wall as a memorial to Henry Nowak, a murdered British youth.

Authorities have painted over the wall and are investigating the incident under Article 257 of the Polish penal code, which prohibits the public insult of individuals or groups based on national, ethnic, or racial identity. If apprehended and convicted, suspects could face up to three years in prison.

While police have secured surveillance footage, local reports suggest a lack of cameras in the immediate vicinity may hinder the identification of those responsible. The investigation has drawn reactions from local media, with some outlets criticizing the legal classification of the slogan.
