Răzvan Burleanu identified as potential FIFA presidential candidate

Răzvan Burleanu, president of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) and member of the FIFA Council, has been named by L’Equipe as a potential candidate for the FIFA presidency in March 2027. He is reportedly being considered by UEFA and an anti-Gianni Infantino alliance as a possible challenger to the current president.

Other potential candidates mentioned include Sandor Csanyi, president of the Hungarian Football Federation. The movement to find a challenger follows opposition to Infantino’s previous attempt to sell commercial rights for FIFA competitions to private investors, a project opposed by UEFA, CONCACAF, and the AFC.

While Infantino faces scrutiny over allegations regarding undeclared secondary salary payments, he maintains support from several regions, including recent backing from Asian football leadership. The FRF Executive Committee has already decided not to support Infantino for the upcoming 2027 elections.
