Răzvan Lucescu signs lucrative two‑year deal to lead Al‑Sadd in Qatar

Romanian coach Răzvan Lucescu has signed a two‑season contract with Qatari champions Al‑Sadd, worth €3.5 million net per season with possible bonuses of up to €0.5 million. The deal runs until July 2028 and follows his recent departure from Greek side PAOK. Al‑Sadd, the reigning Qatar Stars League champion, expect Lucescu to deliver the Asian Champions League title, a trophy the club has won only twice before.

During a pre‑season camp in Austria, Al‑Sadd recorded a 1‑0 friendly victory over Turkish side Trabzonspor, the only goal coming from a Roberto Firmino penalty. Romanian striker Denis Drăguș was not included in the Trabzonspor squad. Lucescu’s first league match will be at home against Al‑Ahli Doha, and he will later face fellow Romanian Cosmin Contra, now on the bench of Al‑Arabi.

Lucescu previously coached Qatar’s El‑Jaish, winning the Qatari Stars Cup, and brings extensive experience to a club that has offered him one of the region’s most lucrative coaching contracts.
