Răzvan Lucescu signs two‑year deal to coach Al‑Sadd in Qatar

Romanian coach Răzvan Lucescu has signed a two‑year contract, with an option for a third season, to become head coach of Al‑Sadd in Doha. The agreement reportedly includes a salary of €3.5‑5 million per year, making him one of the highest‑paid Romanian managers. He replaces former Italy manager Roberto Mancini, who recently resigned.

Lucescu arrives after leaving Greek side PAOK, where he won the 2024 league title. His appointment follows previous experience in the Gulf, having managed El‑Jaish from 2012‑2014. Under his leadership Al‑Sadd aims to retain domestic dominance and target the Asian Champions League.

Soon after his arrival, the club announced its first major signing under Lucescu: Italian centre‑back Alessio Romagnoli from Lazio for a €3 million fee. The squad also features players such as Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino. Lucescu conducted his first training session with Al‑Sadd on 5 July 2026.
