S. C. Jamir proposes President’s Rule for Nagaland

Former Nagaland Chief Minister and former Governor S. C. Jamir has called for the imposition of President’s Rule in Nagaland to facilitate a political settlement regarding the Naga issue. Following a meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on September 10, 2026, Jamir proposed that the state be brought under central rule for one or two years to overhaul the governance system.

Jamir’s actions have drawn scrutiny due to reports that he traveled on the same flight and shared security arrangements with Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen on September 9, 2026. This coordination has raised questions among observers given the existing tensions between Naga and Kuki groups.

In response to criticisms from Nagaland political leaders, Jamir defended his position, stating that his proposal for President’s Rule aligns with previous expressions from various Nagaland legislators and civil society organizations seeking an early solution to the Naga political problem.
