Sé de Silves restoration reaches milestone with new accessibility works

Conservation and enhancement works at the Sé de Silves in Portugal have reached a significant milestone. Funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), the primary restoration phase concluded on August 31. These works included the recovery of roofs and facades, stone conservation, and the restoration of stained glass panels.

Ongoing efforts are now focused on improving accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility. The Municipality of Silves is overseeing the creation of a new lateral entrance on the left side of the transept, a project valued at approximately 50,000 euros. Additional planned improvements include repairing the baptistery, fixing access steps to the tower, and enhancing lighting.

These local heritage projects are part of broader regional development efforts. The Alentejo 2030 program continues to show positive growth in fund implementation, with an approval rate of 53.5%. Notably, the Just Transition Fund (FTJ) has seen a high approval rate of 88.7%, demonstrating the region's capacity to mobilize resources for sustainable development and energy transition.
