India's Jaishankar notes improved China ties and rising Japanese investment

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated in New York that India-China relations have improved compared to 2024 and 2025, following the resolution of the prolonged border standoff that began in 2020. While official exchanges, visas, and flights are gradually returning to normalcy, Jaishankar emphasized that the future of the bilateral relationship remains contingent upon maintaining peace and stability along the border.

In a separate development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump. The leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation in trade, defense, energy, and critical technologies, reaffirming their commitment to the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

Additionally, Jaishankar noted increasing interest from Japanese companies in investing in India, particularly within the semiconductor, chemical, and advanced manufacturing sectors. This trend is part of a broader effort by Japanese firms to diversify supply chains and leverage Indian talent and partnerships.
