S. Jaishankar says US is adopting India's strategic autonomy approach

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that the United States is increasingly adopting a policy of strategic autonomy, similar to India’s long-standing diplomatic approach. Speaking at an Asia Society event in New York alongside former US Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Russel, Jaishankar noted that Washington is now simultaneously managing complex relationships with China, Russia, Ukraine, Europe, and various parts of Asia.

Jaishankar observed that the era of pressure on countries to limit their strategic options in favor of the US has shifted. He remarked that the current global reality involves all major powers openly dealing with one another, contributing to the emergence of a more multipolar international system. He used a metaphor regarding multitasking to describe the US's efforts to navigate competing interests and contradictory geopolitical ties.
