S. Jaishankar strengthens India-Africa ties during visit to Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, and Ethiopia

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar concluded a five-day visit to Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, and Ethiopia from October 6 to 10, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties with these African nations.

In Ghana, discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, defense, health, agriculture, digital technology, and education. India and Ghana signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) regarding cooperation in scientific and academic research, as well as agricultural research and education. Jaishankar met with President John Dramani Mahama and Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to discuss development partnerships, the pharmaceutical industry, and capacity building.

The diplomatic talks also addressed regional and global issues, including the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union, United Nations reforms, and cooperation among Global South nations. Additionally, the visit highlighted India’s role in supporting the African Union’s permanent membership in the G20 during India’s presidency.
