S-Transistors raises €2.6 million to advance quantum computing hardware

Finnish startup S-Transistors, which originated from the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, has raised €2.6 million in a pre-seed funding round. The investment was led by Lifeline Ventures with participation from an angel investor.

The company is developing a new class of integrated circuits based on superconducting transistors. This technology aims to address the scalability limits of current quantum computers, which rely on bulky, power-intensive cabling to connect quantum processing units to room-temperature electronics. By providing high-speed signal control with ultra-low power dissipation at cryogenic temperatures, S-Transistors intends to create quantum motherboards that allow for more compact and energy-efficient orchestration of large-scale quantum systems.

While the technology has potential applications in spacecraft electronics, particle detectors, and classical high-performance computing, the company is initially focusing on the quantum computing sector. The company stated that its technology is already available at wafer scale. The new funding will be used to develop product prototypes for cryogenic signal handling, establish a dedicated cryogenic laboratory, and set up a manufacturing pilot line.
