S19 expressway section opens near Białystok

A new 10.2-kilometer section of the S19 expressway has officially opened in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, connecting Krynice, Dobrzyniewo, and the Białystok Zachód junction. As part of the international Via Carpatia transport corridor, this segment links the S19 with the S8 expressway, serving as a northwestern bypass for Białystok.

The project, completed by the PORR and Unibep consortium at a cost of 405.6 million PLN, includes two lanes in each direction, emergency lanes, and infrastructure designed for heavy traffic loads of up to 11.5 tons per axle. Key construction elements include four bridges over the Supraśl and Biała rivers, 12 animal crossings, and eight viaducts.

The opening aims to improve regional communication, increase road safety, and reduce transit traffic through local towns. Further development of the S19 around Białystok is ongoing, with additional sections expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2029, eventually allowing transit from the Belarusian border toward Warsaw and Western Europe to bypass the regional capital entirely.
