Saab emerges as lowest bidder for ₹471.87 crore Indian Army launcher deal

Saab’s FFV Ordnance has emerged as the lowest bidder for a ₹471.87 crore contract to supply 450 Carl-Gustaf Mk-IV rocket launchers to the Indian Army. The procurement is part of an infantry modernization program aimed at enhancing the firepower and versatility of frontline units.

The Carl-Gustaf Mk-IV is an 84mm shoulder-fired weapon system featuring a carbon-fiber-reinforced design that reduces weight to under seven kilograms. The deal includes advanced sighting systems, such as digital fire-control equipment and red-dot sights, as well as long-term product support and maintenance for 15 years.

Production is slated to take place at Saab’s facility in Jhajjar, Haryana. This facility represents the first Carl-Gustaf manufacturing line established outside of Sweden and operates under a 100% Foreign Direct Investment framework. The project aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative to strengthen the domestic defense manufacturing ecosystem by involving local suppliers and supporting critical component production.
