Saab orders triple due to Ukraine Gripen E and GlobalEye deals
Saab’s order intake more than tripled in the third quarter of 2026, reaching SEK 65.8 billion ($6.6 billion), compared to SEK 20.9 billion ($2.1 billion) in the same period the previous year. This growth was primarily driven by a SEK 24.6 billion ($2.5 billion) contract for 16 Gripen E fighter jets for Ukraine and a SEK 10.1 billion ($1 billion) order for two GlobalEye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft.
The Gripen E contract, signed with Sweden’s Defense Materiel Administration (FMV), includes spare parts and associated equipment. While deliveries to FMV are scheduled for 2029 and 2030, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has expressed expectations to begin operating the aircraft in early 2029. The purchase is supported by a European loan with British assistance.
Saab’s quarterly sales rose 30.6% organically to SEK 20.6 billion ($2.1 billion), while operating income increased 42% to SEK 1.95 billion ($197 million). The company’s total order backlog reached SEK 364.2 billion ($36.7 billion) by the end of September.
