Saab unveils A3-001 stealth unmanned combat aircraft
Saab has unveiled a full-scale model of the A3-001, a stealthy, supersonic unmanned combat aircraft designed to operate as part of an Autonomous Collaborative Platform (ACP). Unveiled at the Malmen airbase during the Swedish Air Force centenary celebrations, the aircraft is intended to function alongside the Gripen E fighter jet.
The A3-001 features a tailless delta-wing configuration and a blended wing-body design optimized for low radar observability. It includes an internal weapons bay to maintain stealth and a serrated engine nozzle to reduce rear-aspect detectability.
In its intended operational role, a Gripen E pilot would act as a tactical commander, directing multiple A3 units to perform high-risk missions such as electronic warfare, suppression of enemy air defenses, and precision strikes in contested environments. The project aims to position Sweden within the European race for advanced collaborative combat aircraft, with development expected to progress through A1 and A2 demonstrators.
