Saad Arous appointed president of Algeria's ANIE

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has signed two decrees regarding the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE). The first decree terminates the interim presidency of Karim Khelfan, who had been serving in the role following the resignation of Mohamed Charfi.

The second decree appoints Saad Arous as the new president of the ANIE. Arous is a lawyer practicing before the Supreme Court and the Council of State. He previously served as the president of the presidential third parliamentary group in the Council of the Nation (Senate) and has represented the Algerian Parliament in international forums, including the Arab Parliamentary Union.

While the leadership change is official, the decrees do not specify the duration of Arous’s mandate or establish a specific timeline for upcoming elections, such as the communal elections he is expected to prepare for.
