Saalfelden forest fire on Winklerberg extinguished by Austrian fire services

On 6 August 2026, firefighters from Saalfelden and the Wiesersberg fire unit responded to a forest fire on the Winklerberg at about 1,350 m altitude. Using a drone and on‑foot teams, they located a 40 m² blaze in difficult terrain. Specialized resources were called in, including the police helicopter Libelle Salzburg, a kerosene‑fuel vehicle from LFV Salzburg, and forest‑fire equipment supplied by the Zell am See fire department. The Libelle performed 13 water‑transport flights, delivering water and equipment to the site. After intensive ground work with fire‑packs and hand tools, the fire was declared out. The operation involved 63 personnel and support from police, the Red Cross, and the Austrian federal forest service.
