Saanich launches Fowler Park pickleball and tennis courts

The Saanich district is initiating a soft launch of the $2.4 million Fowler Park on September 15. The project includes six new pickleball courts and one tennis court, addressing a significant community demand for the sport.

The development follows an 18-year evolution from an original 2008 concept plan that focused on grass and a single tennis court. Following a 2021 resident survey and subsequent public engagement, the district approved an ‘active hub’ concept in 2023 to accommodate the growing popularity of pickleball.

Located near the Lochside Trail, the park provides much-needed flat ground in a hilly community. The facility features a raised central viewing area with seating, 38 parking stalls, seasonal shade umbrellas, and a water fountain. This expansion brings Saanich’s total pickleball capacity to 19 locations, consisting of 11 shared and 10 dedicated courts. A full opening of the park is targeted for late April 2027.
