Saanich Police Chief Dean Duthie receives UFV alumni award

Saanich Police Chief Const. Dean Duthie has been named the 2026 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV). Duthie, a 1995 graduate of the university’s criminal justice program, was recognized for his leadership and three decades of service in policing.

Throughout his career, Duthie has held various roles, including front-line patrol, major crime investigations, recruiting, training, and executive leadership. He has also pursued advanced education, earning a master of education and an executive master of international police leadership, and is currently studying global leadership through the United Nations University for Peace.

Duthie’s leadership was notably tested shortly after he became chief constable during the aftermath of a 2022 shooting and robbery at the Bank of Montreal, an incident in which six officers were shot.
