Saanich resident criticizes local transportation and safety policies

A resident of Saanich has criticized local council members regarding the implementation of safe transportation options in the Mt. Tolmie area. The resident expressed frustration with Councillor Teale Phelps Bondaroff, claiming his statements regarding affordable transportation options are misleading and that previous attempts to communicate specific concerns have gone unanswered.

The resident also raised safety concerns regarding the placement of bike lanes directly abutting pedestrian sidewalks. After contacting Mayor Dean Murdock, the resident reported receiving a response from a planning engineer suggesting that land costs are the primary driver for current infrastructure solutions. The resident argued that current measures, such as reducing speed limits on commuter streets like Shelbourne, do not sufficiently address pedestrian safety for those with mobility issues.
