Saarbahn faces potential strikes throughout September

The tariff dispute involving Saarbahn is expected to intensify throughout September, with the German Locomotive Drivers' Union (GDL) notifying employers of potential strike actions throughout the month. Nico Rebenack, district chairman of the GDL, stated that while warning strikes may be announced on short notice, the union's goal is to reach a resolution at the negotiating table rather than conducting an indefinite strike.

Saarbahn management, led by CEO Karsten Nagel, expressed that managing the impact of these frequent, short-notice strikes is a significant challenge. The company has requested that passengers direct any frustration regarding service disruptions away from the employees involved.

The Saarbahn network serves nearly 35 million passengers annually in the Saarbrücken region and operates cross-border services to Sarreguemines, France. Since May 26, approximately 80 tram-train drivers have participated in 19 previous strike calls.
