Saarbahn train drivers announce warning strike in Saarbrücken

The German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) has announced a warning strike at Saarbahn in Saarbrücken, scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM on Monday, August 17, 2026. While a previously announced strike for Sunday was canceled, allowing for regular service over the weekend, the labor dispute remains unresolved.

The conflict involves approximately 80 train drivers and centers on negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement. Following the Monday strike, the GDL has also threatened further industrial action on Tuesday, August 18.

Saarbahn has deployed replacement buses to mitigate the impact on commuters, as service disruptions are expected to continue throughout the strike periods.
