Saarbahn transit strikes continue amid ongoing tariff dispute

The ongoing tariff dispute between Saarbahn and the German Locomotive Drivers' Union (GDL) resulted in multiple strikes within a single day. Following morning and midday walkouts, a third strike was announced to begin at 17:00. This marks the 30th strike action taken during this months-long conflict.

The GDL is seeking an independent collective agreement and greater union self-determination. The union has rejected allegations from the Saarbahn employer association (KAV Saar) that its members are being used to pursue federal political agendas or personal interests of union leadership.

Saarbahn provides transit services for nearly 35 million passengers annually in the Saarbrücken region and extends cross-border services to Sarreguemines, France. While replacement bus services remain in operation, certain supplementary trips have been suspended. The resumption of regular service depends on the GDL's strike behavior.
