Saarbrücken businesses face crisis due to prolonged construction

Local business owners in Saarbrücken are reporting severe financial distress caused by ongoing construction work in the city center. Michele Ricciolini, owner of the café ‘Cappuccino’, stated that the situation has become a catastrophe, threatening his ability to pay rent and potentially forcing him to close his business next year.

The construction is centered around the former H&M building on Bahnhofstraße, which stood vacant for a period before a new tenant, the retail chain Kik, was secured to occupy approximately 540 square meters of space. However, significant delays in the renovation and redevelopment process have disrupted foot traffic, leaving neighboring shops and eateries struggling to survive.
