Saarbrücken holds vigil for victims of Berlin CSD attack

More than 500 people gathered at Tbilisser Platz in Saarbrücken on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, to hold a vigil for the victims of the attack on the Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Berlin.

During the event, the Saarländisches Staatstheater was illuminated in colorful lights as a sign of solidarity. Sebastian Thul, a board member of LSVD+ Saar, addressed the crowd, stating that while the community mourns, they will not change their way of life and will continue to fight for their rights.

LSVD+ Saar condemned the attack, which they identified as an Islamist hate crime against the queer community. However, board member Julia Zimmermann emphasized that the organization opposes holding all Muslims collectively responsible, noting that religion and ideology are distinct and that generalizations create new injustices.
