Saarbrücken to close Hafenstraße for urban redevelopment

Saarbrücken will implement a full road closure on Hafenstraße this Saturday, September 19, as part of the “Superbrücken” urban development project. The closure will affect the section between the Kohlwaagstraße junction and the Faktoreistraße roundabout for several hours while a central island is dismantled.

The project aims to revitalize the district surrounding the Congresshalle and the future exhibition, congress, and cultural forum. Planned improvements include increased greenery, new pedestrian crossings, tactile elements for the visually impaired, additional bicycle stands, seating, and modern lighting. The works also involve renewing water and electricity lines. A second phase of construction, including the replacement of lighting masts and cable laying, is scheduled to begin in late September.
