Saarbrücken vehicle fire spreads to residential building
A BMW M4 caught fire in the Schafbrücke district of Saarbrücken, Germany, during the early hours of Friday. The blaze, which began with the vehicle, spread to an adjacent residential building on the street ‘Am Lorenzberg’.
Firefighters reported that flames emerged from the roof near the chimney area. Nine residents were involved; eight evacuated the building independently, while one person had to be woken by emergency services. No injuries were reported, though the building has been rendered uninhabitable. Some residents have secured private accommodation, while others may require emergency shelters.
Approximately 50 emergency personnel, including professional and volunteer firefighters, police, and medical services, responded to the scene. Narrow streets in the residential area complicated the operation, requiring several vehicles to be moved to allow access for a turntable ladder. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and criminal investigators are handling the inquiry.
