Saarland CDU calls for emergency heating oil aid
The CDU parliamentary group in the Saarland state parliament is demanding targeted emergency assistance to help citizens cope with high energy costs. Stephan Toscani, the CDU parliamentary group leader, stated that individuals purchasing heating oil often face immediate costs totaling several thousand euros, which can exceed their financial capabilities.
The proposal seeks a financing and implementation concept from both federal and state governments to support hardship cases. Targeted aid would be intended for low-income earners, pensioners, and potentially middle-income families. Toscani suggested that these measures could be funded through increased tax revenues resulting from higher energy prices.
The demand comes as heating oil prices in Germany have recently exceeded 1.70 euros per liter. The high costs are attributed to international crises and conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
