Saarland expands educational and residential infrastructure

Significant infrastructure developments are underway in Saarbrücken to bolster education and student living. The “Campus 1000” project at Saarland University has entered its second construction phase with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. This phase involves the construction of a five-story student dormitory behind the University and State Library, estimated to cost approximately 34 million euros. Once completed in September 2028, this building will provide 306 residential spaces, including barrier-free and wheelchair-accessible apartments. The project aims to eventually provide over 1,000 housing units directly on campus.

Simultaneously, the Chamber of Skilled Crafts of Saarland (HWK) has partially opened its new 8,500-square-meter educational center on Hohenzollernstraße. The facility is already hosting classes for office management and food retail, with optician workshops expected to follow. The center is designed to accommodate up to 700 people daily, including apprentices and master students. While some workshops for metal, electrical, and culinary trades will remain in existing buildings for now, they are scheduled to move to the new site next year.
