The Saarland state government will phase out parent contributions for child‑care centres. From 1 August 2026 the legally mandated parental share of personnel costs will be cut from 5 % to 2.5 %, and on 1 January 2027 the contributions will be abolished entirely.

Minister President Anke Rehlinger called the measure “the biggest net increase in earnings that many families in Saarland have ever received”. Education Minister Christine Streichert‑Clivot added that the stepwise reduction gives parents more freedom to balance work and family life and guarantees equal early‑education opportunities for all children. The government estimates that a two‑child family in the Regionalverband Saarbrücken will save roughly €3,300 per year compared with 2021 levels.
