Saas-Fee suspends summer skiing due to high temperatures
High temperatures in the Swiss Alps have forced the summer skiing resort of Saas-Fee to temporarily suspend its activities. Saastal Bergbahnen AG announced that summer skiing operations would cease starting Monday, August 10, until further notice.
The suspension is due to sustained high temperatures and the resulting changes to snow and glacier conditions. The company stated that under current conditions, the slopes and infrastructure cannot be operated safely.
This decision follows a similar move by Zermatt, which suspended summer skiing on the Swiss side of the Matterhorn in late July due to a heatwave and glacier melting. While some training slopes in Zermatt remained open for Swiss-Ski teams, the extreme summer heat continues to pose safety risks and operational challenges for major Alpine destinations.
