Sabah allocates RM1 billion for water infrastructure and regional development

Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor has announced that over RM1 billion is being allocated to address long-standing water supply infrastructure issues across the state. The investment aims to replace aging pipes to combat leaks and theft, addressing problems inherited from previous administrations. Several major projects are nearing completion, including one expected by the end of this year and another near Tawau which is currently 50 to 60 percent complete.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, the state government is focusing on decentralizing economic development to ensure all districts benefit from growth. During a launch event in Semporna for 106 new two-story shop units and subsequent commercial project phases by the Housing and Town Development Board (LPPB), Hajiji emphasized that development should not be limited to Kota Kinabalu.

He noted that Semporna’s tourism potential must be supported by commercial development and local entrepreneurship to create jobs and economic benefits for residents. This strategy aligns with the upcoming Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 roadmap for 2026–2030, which focuses on increasing competitiveness, productivity, and economic value through improved infrastructure and quality investment.
