Sabah and Kelantan set gold‑medal targets for SUKMA 2026
Sabah's Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced that the state will field 744 athletes in 36 of the 37 sports at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor, aiming to win at least 40 gold medals. The state government has raised the cash incentive for each gold medal to RM10,000, up from RM5,000, to reward athletes and para‑athletes.
Kelantan's sports committee, led by Zamakhshari Muhamad, expects its contingent of 582 athletes to compete in 35 sports and bring home 16 gold medals, along with seven silvers and 11 bronzes. The Kelantan team will also send 62 athletes for the Para SUKMA events. Both states are preparing for the main SUKMA competition from 15‑24 August and the Para SUKMA from 5‑11 September in Selangor.
