Sabah expands digital infrastructure and educational technology

The Sabah state government is intensifying efforts to expand digital infrastructure and educational technology across the region. SEDCO Communications Sdn. Bhd. (SCOMM) is positioned to play a significant role in expanding digital networks through strategic partnerships with telecommunications providers, private sectors, and property owners. These collaborations aim to develop fiber optic networks and improve indoor coverage, including 5G readiness, to support businesses, tourism, and international events at locations such as the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

In the education sector, the state is targeting the supply of 45,000 laptops, Starlink satellite internet services, and solar power systems to 68 schools currently facing internet and electricity constraints. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to digitalize education, which includes the phased implementation of smartboards in schools by 2026. Between 2021 and 2025, the state has allocated RM210.25 million for various educational assistance initiatives, with RM75.5 million earmarked for 2025 alone to ensure equitable access to quality education.
