Sabah Moto Day promotes road safety amid calls for better event management

The ninth edition of Sabah Moto Day was held at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex, serving as a platform to gather the motorcycle community, entrepreneurs, and youth from Sabah, Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia, and Brunei. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor emphasized that the event aims to promote discipline, road safety, and responsibility, noting that roads should not be used as racing tracks and that interests should be channeled through legal and organized platforms.

However, Karambunai assemblyman Datuk Dr Aliakbar Gulasan has called on the Sabah government to review the organization, location, and requirements of the event. This follows public complaints regarding traffic congestion and the impact on road users. Aliakbar suggested that while supporting positive outlets for youth, the government should consider more suitable, controlled locations and improve coordination regarding traffic control, parking, and emergency routes to ensure the event does not cause public distress.
