Sabah Sarawak Keluar Malaysia NGO protests in Melbourne
The Sabah Sarawak Keluar Malaysia (SSKM) Australia organization held a peaceful demonstration in front of the Victorian Parliament Building in Melbourne to raise concerns regarding the political future and rights of Sabah and Sarawak.
During the protest, which coincided with United Nations Day, members displayed the Malaysian flag upside down to symbolize political unrest. SSKM President Ray Chalmer Jefferson stated that the action was intended to bring historical questions and the rights of the people of Sabah and Sarawak to international attention.
The group raised several key issues, including the authority granted to representatives of North Borneo and Sarawak to sign the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) on July 9, 1963. They are calling for an independent review of historical documents and legal aspects to verify the validity of the agreement, emphasizing that this is a demand for historical evidence rather than a claim of a court ruling.
SSKM Australia is advocating for the disclosure of historical records to allow for independent scrutiny and has called upon relevant United Nations bodies to consider the matter according to their mandates. The group also expressed interest in pursuing a peaceful referendum process within a legal framework.
